Example: a 1.2kW radiator needs 1.2 × 2.9 = 3.48 l\/min, which is above the 2.5 l\/min range, so choose the 0–7.5 l\/min valve. Use the 0–2.5 l\/min valve for small radiators (up to about 800W at ΔT5) where the finer scale helps.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eFit, set, forget: balancing method\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003col\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eWork from your heat loss design: list each radiator's output and convert it to a flow rate using the factor above.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIf you have a flow meter, add up all the flow rates, add 15% and set the pump to match with all FRVs and TRVs open. Without one, set a constant pump speed you expect to cover the total flow.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eStart at the radiator nearest the heat source. Hold the black section of the flow meter and turn to adjust each valve to its target before moving on.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIf the last radiators get far too much or too little flow, adjust the pump speed and repeat from the first radiator.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eFit the cap once the flows are correct. If the system uses a dynamic pump setting, set the pump back.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ol\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNear the pump on larger systems, differential pressure can make fine adjustment difficult. Firepower advises fitting an extra lockshield at the other end of the radiator to take some of the pressure drop, then fine-tuning with the FRV. Aim for only the required flow: excess flow wastes energy and causes noise.
